Intercept Launches Palindrome

(ATLANTA, May 2002) Intercept Technology Inc., a worldwide leader in PCB/Hybrid/MCM design software, announces the release of PALINDROME, a state-of-the-art reverse-engineering product that allows a layout-driven design to back annotate PCB changes and additions to the schematic. PALINDROME identifies component and net differences between the schematic and layout. This provides valuable design-discrepancy data used by RF and PCB design teams to automatically and interactively generate new, logically correct schematics. A one-of-a-kind reverse-engineering application, PALINDROME represents Intercept's commitment to provide the industry with the most dynamic software available.

By combining PALINDROME with Intercept's front-end schematic capture application, MOZAIX, and the highly advanced layout software, PANTHEON, designers can finally implement a full reverse-engineering flow. For example, start with either a PCB import from legacy data or a Gerber-only recovery, and finish with the auto-generation of complete schematic and library data. With PALINDROME, designers can also forward a schematic to layout, modify the board circuitry by adding new components or Digital/Hybrid/RF sections, and then back annotate new schematic sheets that match the final PCB released for build. PALINDROME's built-in part selector ensures that components added to the board in layout include company-specific part numbers and other key properties. Following back annotation, PALINDROME's built-in symbol generator compares schematic and layout data. In cases where schematic libraries do not contain symbols specified in layout, the generator automatically constructs block symbols that mirror the shape and pin based on the associated PCB geometry. PALINDROME addresses netlist differences between schematic and layout by automatically updating instance pins to match the net connections in the PCB design.

"PALINDROME is yet another indication of Intercept's desire to support flexible, real-world design processes," stated Vaughn Staples, Director of Intercept Engineering Consulting. "PALINDROME transforms the previously difficult or impossible task of layout-driven logical design into simple reality. By combining PALINDROME with PANTHEON's unequaled import capabilities, which allow corporations to pull legacy data from 27 prominent EDA formats, engineers can synthesize complete schematics and libraries in a matter of minutes."

PALINDROME is now available for Windows, Linux, and UNIX platforms, with worldwide pricing set at $10,000 USD. In an effort to help reduce operating costs in today's tough market, Intercept currently offers PALINDROME through a "catch-and-release" licensing system. Most companies need only purchase one PALINDROME license to service an entire design department.
